  • Become a socially and commercially aware professional, ready for the world of business and media.
  • Bring creativity and innovation together to revolutionise how businesses everywhere communicate with their audiences.
  • Work with our in-house marketing company and innovation studio to gain on-the-ground experience.
Become a socially and commercially aware marketing and communications professional with this cutting-edge Business and Management and Media Communications degree. You’ll learn how to harness the media to address issues of diversity, representation and sustainability in the world of business, while meeting the needs of twenty-first century consumers through new digital technologies. As a business and media professional, you’ll need to be able to lead others into an inclusive and sustainable future. For this reason, you’ll explore the links between online influencers and consumer behaviour, between freelancing and festivals, and practise your skills in emerging marketing practices for immersive experiences. In your final year, you’ll join The Studio, the University’s city-centre innovation hub for creative media technology, and Immersive Promotion Design, our in-house immersive marketing company. By collaborating across the region’s business and arts sector, you’ll realise your vision for a more inclusive and sustainable world. Why choose this combination?Students on this combined course will benefit from the experience of two different disciplines. Bring your creativity to the business environment and learn to professionalise your creative practice. Become a solution-provider, business leader and communications innovator. As a graduate of our Business and Management and Media Communications degree at Bath Spa, you’ll develop practical skills in marketing, creative strategy, public relations (PR), innovative solution-finding (design thinking) and social media management – through the lens of inclusive and sustainable business futures.Over the course of your studies you'll have the flexibility to choose four optional modules in areas that are of particular interest to you, on topics such as leadership, events management, immersive marketing and social media ethics. You can also bring in modules from areas outside of this course if you want to explore issues around a particular theme. For example, you could work with students from across the University in areas such as music, fashion and festival production. You’ll bring together your social and commercial awareness with your deep-rooted knowledge of business and media, to work on campaigns, business and strategy reports, podcasts and videos with our industry partners.Combined Honour AwardsAt Bath Spa University many of our undergraduate programmes can be combined, so you don’t have to limit yourself to one subject. If you choose to study a combined award then in Year One you’ll start by studying both subjects in equal depth, then from Year Two you can choose whether to continue with an equally joint course, or a Major/Minor route.More about the Professional Placement YearA Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where you undertake a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between your second and final years of undergraduate study. You can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) yourself, with support from the Careers team.
