About the course

This Music (Performance) BA (Hons) degree combines conservatoire-style training in instrumental or vocal performance with university-style academic music studies. It is an ideal course for those wanting to be equipped for a career as a professional musician while keeping open the option to explore a wider range of future career paths within and beyond music. This course takes advantage of advanced practical musical training within a traditional university setting, and a close integration with our BMus Music and BA Music degrees.  Half your credits in each year of the course will be in instrumental or vocal performance (individual tuition, ensembles and professional development); the other half will be in academic music studies. You will be part of a vibrant music community, performing in, or attending performances at, public venues such as Pontio or the magnificent Prichard Jones Hall. Your musical experience will extend beyond the lecture room, with opportunities to join the University Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir or one of the many student societies for Music, such as Opera, Concert Band, DJ, Musical Theatre, and String Orchestra. Studying music sharpens your memory, encourages teamwork, provides an outlet for your creativity and equips you with the professional music skills appropriate to a wide range of careers.‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch. If you don’t have the required qualifications or meet the specified entry criteria for this course, please see the following alternative Music courses: BA Music (W300) or BMus Music (W302).
