In close partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Primary Care providers in North Wales, our new programme replaces the Cardiff University School of Medicine C21 North Wales curriculum. It incorporates innovative adaptations to leverage diverse clinical settings, including rural and urban environments, while integrating the Welsh language and cultural context to prepare students for future medical practice. Building on a proven track record, we have successfully delivered medical training since 2018, with the first North Wales cohort graduating in July 2023.The North Wales Medical School curriculum has been validated by Bangor University and is undergoing GMC approval, with Cardiff University as a contingency partner. Emphasising community medicine, it offers placements in primary care, GP surgeries, hospitals, and rural settings, aligning with the Welsh Government’s “A Healthier Wales” strategy. Students will receive high-quality teaching and clinical experience, graduating as skilled clinicians attuned to local communities, with potential campus changes from year two to accommodate placements.
