About the course

The BA China Studies programme offers an in-depth understanding of China, one of the 21st century's most influential global players. Students apply theories from the humanities and social sciences to analyse China, while gaining firsthand experience of its language and culture through living in the country. The programme features two pathways tailored to career goals: 'Teaching Chinese as an International Language' for language educators, or 'Contemporary China Studies' for those focused on social sciences, including teaching. All students follow the same modules in Years One and Two before selecting a pathway for Years Three and Four.Study at XJTLU to experience China firsthand from its Suzhou campus—one of the nation's most vibrant cultural and economic hubs. Explore topics in history, culture, society, politics, business, and economics; undertake fieldwork across China; and learn Mandarin, one of the world's most spoken languages. Graduates earn dual degrees: one from XJTLU (approved by China's Ministry of Education) and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool (Russell Group). Taught in English and open to Chinese and international students, it allows qualifying internationals direct entry to Year Two upon meeting academic and English language requirements.
