About the course

At the University of Sussex, 95% of our Mathematical Sciences research is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021), and we rank in the top 15 in the UK for Business and Economics (THE World University Rankings by Subject 2024). This integrated Master's course applies mathematics to real-world economic challenges, building strong foundational maths skills and a deep understanding of economic concepts. Students learn from expert mathematicians and economists, with research-informed teaching covering core areas like pure and applied mathematics, alongside options in differential equations, mathematical modelling, probability, behavioural economics, and global policy. You'll develop analytical skills using tools such as MATLAB, Python, and R, culminating in an advanced research project, preparing you for careers in research, academia, or industry, with access to career coaching and employer opportunities. The programme is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, meeting requirements for Chartered Mathematician status, and is also available as a three-year BSc. Based on our green campus near the South Downs National Park and Brighton & Hove, with easy access to Gatwick and London, Sussex fosters innovation across science, policy, and beyond, challenging students to make meaningful contributions worldwide. Modules are detailed on our course page.
