Ninety-four percent of Biological Sciences research at the University of Sussex is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021). This MSci Biology course prepares students to address pressing global issues, such as curing cancer, tackling Alzheimer’s, and protecting endangered species. Participants develop critical thinking, scientific teamwork, and communication skills, alongside a strong foundation in biology, with options to focus on areas like cell and molecular biology, evolution, ecology, or neuroscience and behaviour. From the first year, hands-on experience in laboratories and field trips to destinations including the South Downs National Park, Wales, Ecuador, Portugal, Southern Africa, and the Red Sea is offered.Students learn from experts working on real-world problems, such as cancer treatments and bee population decline, and may undertake a research project in their third year within a supportive community. The course equips graduates with skills in experimentation, data analysis, and evidence-based conclusions, opening careers in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, sustainability, and scientific communication. The integrated Masters year provides advanced training through an individual research project, while a three-year BSc option is also available. Located near Brighton and the South Downs, Sussex fosters innovation and global impact.
