About the course

This course offers tailored modules in advanced fields like gene expression, neuroscience, pharmacology, and toxicology, allowing students to align studies with their interests. Access to the £12.5 million Innovation for Health Learning Laboratory provides hands-on experience with equipment used in the NHS and global research labs. Students can gain industry exposure through Professional Training placements with partners offering exclusive roles for aspiring biomedical scientists. An integrated masters option includes an extra research-focused year, equipping graduates for careers in technical research within industry or academia. The programme begins with foundational topics in the first year, such as bacteriology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, human physiology, microbiology, and physiology. The second year shifts to clinically oriented subjects like pathology, molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, and pharmacology. In the third year, students select advanced modules in areas including circadian rhythms, immunology, systems biology, and toxicology, alongside compulsory units on cancer, infectious diseases, and immunology. All students undertake a supervised research project, with integrated masters participants completing additional training in scientific management and advanced research to prepare for specialized careers. For full module details, visit the course website.
