About the course

Our BA (Hons) Applied and Contemporary Theatre course trains future theatre makers to use drama for building communities and driving social change, addressing issues like inequalities and engaging with contemporary politics. Ranked 3rd in the UK for dance, drama, and cinematics in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, and 5th for drama and dance in the Guardian University Guide 2024, the programme was also shortlisted for University of the Year in 2023.Students learn from industry-leading professionals in a vibrant community, developing skills in voice, movement, and theatre production. The curriculum covers topics such as Theatre for Social Change, Political Theatre, and Community Theatre, with opportunities for field trips, guest artist visits, and work placements in organisations like Chickenshed and Guildford Shakespeare Company. In Year Two, placements provide professional experience, with an optional training year available.
