About the course

This BSc in Sociology and Criminology explores the interplay between social behaviour and crime, drawing on top-ranked expertise (Top 5 in the UK for Criminology, The Times Good University Guide 2024). Students can engage in study abroad opportunities in Brazil, Canada, or China, collaborate with the Social Impact Lab, and benefit from research at the Work Futures Research Centre and Institute of Criminal Justice Research. The program develops skills to analyse 'criminal' and 'deviant' behaviours in diverse societies, supported by research-led teaching from leading academics influencing policy and practice.Modules may include Perspectives in Criminology, Culture, Communication and Resistance, and Penology, fostering quantitative, qualitative, and theoretical research methods. Assessment involves lectures, tutorials, coursework, projects, and independent learning, with breakdowns evolving yearly: Year 1 (63% exams, 37% coursework), Year 2 (30% exams, 67% coursework), and Year 3 (31% exams, 59% coursework). Graduates emerge equipped for careers in criminal justice or further study, blending scholarship with real-world application.
