Philosophy and English literature address profound questions of our time, such as the existence of God, the nature of morality, and what it means to be human. This joint honours course examines these concepts from complementary perspectives, enhancing your appreciation of both disciplines. You will explore diverse historical and cultural contexts, from Viking to Victorian eras and Eastern to African settings, while studying topics like ethics, reason, responsibility, and contested narratives in American literature. Taught in small groups by expert staff whose research informs the content, the course incorporates cutting-edge digital humanities tools, including virtual reality and 3D technology, to foster innovative learning.The programme offers a range of modules, such as Ethics, Mind and World, and The Novel, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests. Learning occurs through lectures, tutorials, coursework, and projects, with assessments including essays, presentations, and exams. Personal academic tutors provide ongoing support and feedback to help you improve throughout your studies.
