About the course

This three-year Pharmacology degree, based in our state-of-the-art Life Sciences building, explores the development of innovative drugs for treating diseases like bacterial infections, cancer, AIDS, and heart failure, ultimately enhancing quality of life for humans and animals. In the first two years, students cover core pharmacology principles through topics such as biochemistry and cell biology, then undertake an independent research project in the third year. Supported by expert staff engaged in cutting-edge research on nerve damage, oncology, and antibiotics, students can opt for a year-long industry placement or a semester abroad. The program offers flexible modules across years, including Chemistry of Life in Year 1, Exploring Proteins in Year 2, and Molecular Pharmacology in Year 3, allowing customization to individual interests. Assessment involves lectures, tutorials, coursework, projects, presentations, and exams, preparing graduates for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, teaching, or further study like an MSc or PhD.
