About the course

This four-year integrated undergraduate and master’s programme enables students to master two modern languages—French, German, or Spanish—alongside linguistics, exploring how languages are created, learned, and shaped. Beginning at undergraduate level, the course leads to a master’s qualification, with 96% of graduates entering employment or further study within 15 months. Students spend a year abroad in one or two countries, enhancing language skills, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. Options include studying a new language with additional teaching and funding for intensive courses.Throughout the programme, participants develop expertise as skilled linguists, interpreting cultures, societies, and behaviours, while writing a dissertation on a chosen topic. Key areas of study encompass translation, contemporary society, literature, film, ethnography, and politics. Modules may include Applications of Linguistics, Globalisation, and Audiovisual Translation. Assessment involves lectures, classes, tutorials, and coursework, fostering a comprehensive learning experience.
