About the course

This integrated Master's degree in mechanical engineering combines theoretical principles with practical design work. The first two years cover essential mechanical engineering fundamentals, including law, management, systems design, modelling, and computing, to guide products from concept to market. In the third year, students deepen their knowledge of mathematics and materials for sustainable manufacturing and complete an individual project. The fourth year features advanced modules and a group design project addressing real-world problems, supported by state-of-the-art facilities such as the UK's largest wind tunnel and a 3D imaging centre. An optional industrial placement year offers a paid, year-long position in an engineering organisation, enhancing employability through practical application of skills. The programme is fully accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, providing a pathway to chartered status. Assessment includes examinations, coursework, projects, and reports, with typical modules spanning electrical systems, fluid mechanics, and strategic management across the years.
