About the course

Actuaries serve as the world's financial architects and engineers, providing essential expertise in managing pension funds, general insurance, and institutional investments. This course equips you with mathematical, probabilistic, and statistical tools to model uncertainties and simulate future events, delivering the technical skills for an actuarial career. It integrates mathematics with economics, finance, and actuarial science, enabling exploration of mathematical applications through models and statistical analysis. You will develop analytical and problem-solving skills focused on risk, specialize in statistics and actuarial science, access a dedicated maths student centre, and use tools like Python and R. Taught via lectures and workshops by leading experts, the degree is accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), offering exemptions from core principles (see course page). Graduates launch actuarial careers with advanced standing or pursue quantitative roles in finance, earning £36,700 on average within 15 months, with 97% employed or studying (Graduate Outcomes 2022-23, published 2025).
