About the course

This three-year Marine Biology BSc degree, accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), delves into ocean life through the study of biology and ecology in marine systems. Students will expand their knowledge in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, and maths, while developing practical skills for global careers. Based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), a premier hub for ocean and Earth science research, participants will access advanced labs and research vessels for hands-on fieldwork, including boat-based projects. The programme equips graduates with expertise to address environmental challenges, with Ocean and Earth Science at Southampton ranked 8th in the UK and 39th globally (QS World Rankings, 2023), and 98% of graduates employed or in further study 15 months post-graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2020/2021).Modules span topics like Earth and Ocean Systems, Introduction to Functional Marine Biology, and Marine Ecology, allowing customization to individual interests. Assessment methods include coursework, lab reports, essays, group projects, oral presentations, and exams, fostering a broad range of skills for professional success.
