This degree course is designed for those eager to study modern languages at university without prior A-level or equivalent qualifications. It offers an interdisciplinary curriculum covering ethnography, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, and digital/non-digital communication to address contemporary challenges in language, culture, and communication. Students can begin learning one or two languages from scratch, including Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Italian, Japanese, or Russian. International students meeting English requirements may also study English to enhance proficiency. In the final year, a professional project with businesses or charities can replace a traditional dissertation, fostering employability skills for careers in education, language teaching, IT, management, media, arts, social work, and beyond.Key modules include Introduction to Language, Culture and Communication, language-specific studies, Language Ideologies and Attitudes, Understanding Culture, and a Modern Languages Dissertation.
