About the course

The four-year MEng in Computer Science with Cyber Security builds on BSc core learning, providing essential professional skills, knowledge, and understanding for the computing industry. Students specialise in cyber security, exploring concepts, principles, technologies, and practices to address emerging threats, with key areas including criminology, risk management, law, and social sciences. The programme is recognised as a centre of excellence by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre and accredited by the British Computer Society and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.The curriculum allows tailoring through core modules in programming, systems, and mathematics during the first two years, followed by optional modules and an individual project in the third year. The fourth year focuses on engineering design, management, and industrial collaboration via group projects. Assessment methods include examinations, in-class tests, design exercises, programming tasks, presentations, and group work.

What you will learn

This four-year programme has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests. During the first two years you will undertake a series of core modules, for example Programming, Computer Systems, and Mathematics. In your third year you can choose from a wide range of optional modules that reflect the specialist areas and key technologies of computer science that will be critical in the future. You will also work on an individual project with the potential to explore cutting edge technologies and innovative applications. The fourth year particularly emphasises engineering design, management and industrial collaboration. You will take part in a group design project, working with a real industry customer or solving challenging problems through the imaginative application of technology.
