About the course

Civil engineering is vital for sustainable societal development, encompassing planning, construction, water supply, and coastal defense. Students will gain skills to design innovative solutions for built environments, infrastructure, and cities, alongside essential management and teamwork abilities for industry success. The first two years establish a strong foundation in engineering science and civil engineering principles, introducing design skills like sketching, model-making, and computing through workshops and projects. In the third year, students explore highway and traffic engineering, structural stability, geotechnics, and complete an individual project. Key modules include Introduction to Engineering Design, Structural Analysis, Soil Mechanics, and options in later years.Assessment combines unseen written examinations with coursework, such as problem-solving exercises, laboratory reports, design projects, essays, and group work. Experimental, research, and design skills are evaluated through reports, dissertations, and presentations. The program is accredited by professional bodies, including the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and Institute of Highway Engineers, ensuring industry recognition.
