About the course

This four-year MEng in Artificial Intelligence builds on the three-year BEng, equipping students with advanced skills in numerical software development. It applies mathematical principles to design and implement modern AI, machine learning, and data science systems, opening opportunities in industries like transport, healthcare, communications, and entertainment. The programme includes core modules on essential AI skills, alongside optional modules drawn from cutting-edge research in areas such as Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Robotics. With high demand for skilled AI professionals, graduates benefit from Southampton's strong employer connections, annual careers fairs, and startup support through Future Worlds. The curriculum allows tailoring through core modules in the first two years, covering algorithms, programming, and mathematics, followed by advanced machine learning in the third year. Students can select specialised AI options and participate in a fourth-year group design project with real industry challenges. The programme also offers a year-in-industry option. Assessment methods include written exams, in-class tests, design and programming exercises, oral presentations, assessed labs, and group work, ensuring comprehensive evaluation of learning outcomes.
