Learn about the ancient world and find ways to understand the foundations of how we live today. From ancient Egypt to Minoan civilisation, from the conquests of Alexander the Great to the Roman Empire, from Roman Britain to the ancient Americas and the Middle East, from ancient philosophy and the biblical world to the rise of Islam. You’ll have the chance to engage with topics you are already passionate about, or to try something entirely new. This might mean application of cutting-edge technology to discover and map new sites, or develop complimentary archival research skills. You'll gain at least 3 weeks of practical experience of field work, including excavating archaeological sites and collecting archaeological material from ploughed fields. Studying abroad for a year will enable you to explore another culture. You'll spend your third year at a partner university in Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea or Australia.Our Digital Humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre.
