About the course

This programme equips students with the knowledge and skills to analyse contemporary societies and their transformations, focusing on crime and criminal justice. In Sociology, you will examine social processes that shape individuals, groups, and institutions, while connecting theoretical concepts to dimensions of social differentiation such as gender, class, race, age, sexuality, and education. In Criminology, you will explore key concepts, methodologies, and approaches to critically understand criminalisation, victimisation, crime causes, management, prevention, its links to inequalities and rights, punishment, and media representations.Interactive small-group teaching, through discussions and debates, fosters deeper insights into how societies influence individuals and vice versa, highlighting the complexity of social issues and policy solutions. Sociology develops skills in data analysis, argument construction, and communication, preparing graduates for careers in government, charity, and commercial sectors. Core modules include Degree Core Competences, Placement Support, Thinking Sociologically, Gender, Race, and Class, British Society, Introduction to Criminology, and Introduction to Criminal Justice.
