About the course

Enhance your writing abilities and examine the interconnections between film and theatre through our BA in Creative Writing and Film & Theatre. Delivered collaboratively by the Department of English Literature and the Department of Film, Theatre and Television, this comprehensive programme fosters creative writing in intimate group settings, analyses diverse literary, dramatic, and cinematic works, and offers both practical and theoretical insights into film and theatre. The disciplines synergise effectively, as refining characters and narratives in writing strengthens skills for filmmaking and stage production.Sample modules for 2025/26, subject to final approval, include Introduction to Creative Writing, Analysing Theatre and Performance, Film Forms and Cultures, Creative Research Project, Adaptations across Stage and Screen, and Musical Theatre. Note that availability of optional modules cannot be guaranteed, and updated details will be available on our course page by summer 2024.
