About the course

Our MChem Chemistry degree provides comprehensive training to develop your knowledge and skills, leveraging state-of-the-art facilities as you embark on a career in industry, research, or higher education. This four-year program establishes a strong foundation in core chemistry during the first two years, followed by specialist options in areas such as polymers, organic synthesis, catalysis, and biomolecular modelling. In the later years, you can pursue advanced topics like atmospheric chemistry, contemporary organic synthesis, and industrial chemistry, complemented by laboratory classes and a final-year research project for independent exploration.Sample modules include Mathematics for Chemists, Fundamentals of Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table, Shape, Structure and Reactivity in Organic Chemistry, Polymers in Nature and Industry, Macromolecular Chemistry and Nanotechnology, and Chemistry Practicals. These are subject to final university approval and potential changes; for the latest details, visit our course page.

What you will learn

The following modules have been approved in principle for delivery in 2025/26. Please note that as part of our current curriculum improvement process, all modules require final University approval and may be subject to change. Please check our website for more details about the course structure. Sample modules for this course include:

  • Mathematics for Chemists
  • Fundamentals of Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table
  • Shape, Structure and Reactivity in Organic Chemistry
  • Polymers in Nature and Industry
  • Macromolecular Chemistry and Nanotechnology
  • Chemistry Practicals.
The University cannot guarantee that all optional modules will be available to all students who may wish to take them. Further information about the content of final approved modules will be available in the summer of 2024.
