About the course

Our practical BSc Biomedical Science with Professional Experience course offers a four-year programme that explores the inner workings of the human body and engages students in world-class research, including a professional placement year between the second and third years. Developed in collaboration with NHS laboratory scientists, the course is delivered by research-active experts. In the 2023 National Student Survey, 98% of students rated teaching staff as good or very good at explaining concepts. You will study biological systems from cellular to whole-body levels, examine diseases and the body's defence mechanisms, and select specialised modules based on your interests, alongside opportunities for industrial placements or paid studentships.Sample modules include Cellular and Molecular Principles of Life, Anatomy and Physiology, Haematology and Immunology, Medical Genetics, Venoms and Poisons: From Pharmacology to Therapeutics, and Evolution in Health and Disease. These are provisionally approved for 2025/26 and subject to change; the University cannot guarantee availability. Further details will be available in summer 2024, so please check the course page regularly.
