Join our BA in Ancient History and History to delve into the past, from ancient Greece and Medieval Europe to Cold War Britain. This programme combines the classical world's richness with global historical perspectives, enhancing your understanding through complementary subjects. Over three years, you'll explore modern questions via their historical roots, using literary and material sources. In your first year, focus on building research and analytical skills; later, select modules aligned with your interests, such as ancient civilisations of Greece, Rome, and Egypt, or topics like medieval magic and the origins of witchcraft.The Department of History offers expertise in political, social, and cultural histories from the medieval era to the present, while the Department of Classics examines Greek and Roman societies from c. 2000 BC to AD 600. In the 2023 National Student Survey, 100% of students rated teaching staff highly for explanations. Core modules include Greek History: War, Society, and Change in the Archaic Age; Perspectives in History; Roman History: The Rise and Fall of the Republic; and Making History and You.
