About the course

At a top-five global university for pharmacy and pharmacology (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 and 2021), this course explores the discovery and design of medicines, preparing students for careers in developing innovative drugs to improve lives. Through case studies in the first two years, students integrate core pharmaceutical sciences, including chemistry for drug design and analysis, pharmaceutics for medicine formulation and properties, and biosciences for understanding disease, drug action, and biological drug development. The program also covers diseases, common medications, regulations, patenting, and global business skills.Teaching methods encompass labs, lectures, tutorials, workshops, and problem classes. Year one introduces foundational topics like cardiovascular disease, drug structure, and medicine science. Year two advances to complex drug synthesis, discovery, and design. In year three, students undertake a personalized research project, potentially abroad in Malaysia, while gaining insights into the pharmaceutical industry and business to ready them for professional roles.

What you will learn

Our teaching methods include lab sessions, lectures, tutorials, workshops, and problem classes. In year one you will study fundamental areas of pharmaceutical sciences. This will introduce you to a wide range of topics and provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge. You'll learn about cardiovascular disease, drug structure, and the science of medicines. In year two, you still study more advanced modules at a higher level of expertise. You will learn about the synthesis of complex drugs, advanced drug discovery and drug design. In year three you will complete a research project in an area of pharmaceutical sciences of your choice. This will involve collecting, analysing, and interpreting your own data. You will have the opportunity to complete your third-year research project abroad at our partner university in Malaysia. You will also learn about the business and industry of pharmaceutics to prepare you for your career.
