About the course

Dietitians play a vital role in enhancing health and well-being by applying expertise in food and science to support individuals, groups, and populations. This accredited integrated master's course, recognized by the British Dietetic Association and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council, prepares graduates to become registered dietitians. It addresses the evolving field of dietetics through comprehensive teaching in nutrition, biochemistry, medicine, pathology, and pharmacology, alongside hands-on clinical placements, communication skills training, and research development to ensure safe, evidence-based care. Applicants must undergo interviews. The curriculum progresses from foundational studies in nutrition and biochemistry in the first year, including a short placement, to advanced topics in metabolism, physiology, and medicine in the second year. The third year focuses on clinical applications for various conditions, public health, and behavioral management, with a 12-week placement. The final year integrates another 12-week placement, a research project on nutrition and human health, and specialized areas like leadership and dietary management.

What you will learn

In the first year, you'll study nutrition and biochemistry. You'll learn about the role of a registered dietitian and the skills required. There is a short practice placement during the spring semester. In the second year, you’ll build upon your skills in dietetics and communication. Applied science topics include metabolism, nutrition and physiology and medicine. In the third year, you will apply your knowledge to a range of conditions and age groups. You’ll study clinical pharmacology, public health and behavioural management. You will develop core clinical skills on your 12-week full-time placement over the summer. The final year combines a further 12-week practice placement, your research project and advanced dietetics. You'll learn about dietary management in specialist areas, and cover management, leadership and professionalism. Research projects can relate directly to nutrition and human health.
