About the course

Enroll in our innovative mental health nursing course at the University of Nottingham to build a confident career in a transformative field. This program empowers nurses to support individuals with mental illnesses across all life stages, working in diverse settings from hospitals to homes while providing care for patients and their families. The curriculum equips you with essential knowledge and skills to navigate mental health complexities, fostering a deep understanding of patient needs and offering rewarding opportunities to guide recovery journeys.Ranked 5th in the UK and 31st globally for Nursing (QS World Rankings 2023), our course features leading research, optional modules like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and specialized placements in institutions such as Rampton High Secure Hospital. In the first year, develop practical skills in simulated environments; year two advances knowledge in sciences and care planning with placements; and the final year emphasizes leadership and personalized learning, leading to NMC registration.

What you will learn

In your first year, you'll develop your practical skills in a simulated clinical environment within our Medical School. Module topics will introduce you to professional nursing, biosciences and clinical learning. In year two your knowledge and skills in biological sciences, sociology, psychology and pharmacology will grow. You'll apply your learning to assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating how people are cared for. There are a variety of placements in year two, with resilience-based clinical supervision to support your development. By your final year you'll be working under more distant supervision and you'll be responsible for a small group of patients, making confident and proactive decisions for their health. You'll take part in advanced clinical learning and developing your leadership skills for practice. You'll have the opportunity to personalise your learning in year three through a choice of optional modules.
