Taught by internationally acclaimed experts, our research-led program partners with four diverse NHS Trusts, offering varied clinical experiences in maternity services. Successful completion qualifies you for registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.In your first year, develop a strong grasp of the midwife's role and essential skills, including placements focused on normal childbirth. The second year explores the transformative impacts of pregnancy and evidence-based practices. In the final year, learn to address complex health and social needs while honing management and leadership skills for your career.
During your first year, you'll develop a strong understanding of the professional role of the midwife in practice, along with the skills needed to succeed in the profession. You'll experience placements in year one, with a focus on normal childbirth. In your second year you'll begin exploring the different ways in which pregnancy and childbirth can change people’s lives. The importance of research and evidence-based care is also explored. In your final year, you'll learn how to care for individuals with more complex health and social needs. You'll also develop the skills needed for effective management and leadership, in preparation for your future midwifery career.
