About the course

As populations expand, there is a pressing need to produce goods more intelligently, safely, and sustainably while safeguarding natural resources. Environmental engineers play a vital role in this by designing processes and products that reduce impacts on air, land, and water, optimizing finite resources. They focus on areas such as waste disposal, environmental compliance to mitigate spills and emissions, flooding and drainage, infrastructure development, pollutant management, land recovery from damage caused by mining, farming, or landfills, and water supply and sanitation. This course fosters commitment to planetary protection through practical experiences, including optional one-year paid industrial placements or study abroad opportunities. The program is accredited by the IChemE for BEng and IOM3 for MEng standards, under the UK Engineering Council's license, ensuring it meets professional competence criteria. Students begin with shared foundational modules in engineering fundamentals, science, and design, with the option to transfer courses after the first year. In later years, advanced studies include industry-focused group projects and specialized modules, culminating in a research and development project. The curriculum involves lectures, group work, tutorials, and self-study, typically exceeding 40 hours weekly.
