This course is ideal for those passionate about uncovering new interpretations through literature and history, as it examines the stories that define our place in the world. It integrates the study of European and global history with English language, literature, and drama, from Old English to the present. Students can explore themes such as American Civil Rights, the Crusades, or Colonial India, while tailoring their degree with optional modules on historical figures, events, and themes spanning the 6th century CE to today. As a joint honours program, it provides skills development from both disciplines, with subjects taught separately but allowing for a unified final-year dissertation. In the first year, students select three 20-credit core modules in English and two in History, including the foundational "Learning History" module. The second year involves choosing three English modules from at least two areas and up to three History modules across a broad range. By the third year, students can specialize in modules of greatest interest.
