Electronic engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the production of technologies such as drones, electric vehicles, smartphones, navigation systems, and hospital equipment. This course fosters a deep understanding of electronics through hands-on lab projects, individual and team-based work, and project management training. In the third year, students complete an industry placement, remaining registered with the university and supported by regular tutor meetings. Graduates emerge confident in creating and advancing electrical control systems amid rapid technological changes. All electrical and electronic programs share core content in the first two years, enabling specialization in year three. As BEng holders, graduates can register as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers, pursuing careers in industry or other fields. The curriculum begins with a common first-year program, including modules in computer-aided engineering, engineering mathematics, power and energy, and information systems. In the second year, students enhance their electronic engineering knowledge and design skills through laboratory-based subjects. The third year focuses on industrial placement, while the final year features an individual project and optional modules such as power electronic applications, digital communications, robotics, and dynamics and control.
All students follow a common programme in year one and you will study modules such as computer aided engineering, engineering mathematics, power and energy and information systems. In year two, you will continue to improve your understanding of electronic engineering, and your design skills will be developed through a variety of laboratory-based subjects. The industrial placement is completed in your third year and in your final year, you have the opportunity to undertake an individual project as well as a number of varied optional modules such as power electronic applications and control, digital communications and robotics, dynamics and control.
