Electrical engineers design and develop technologies for generating and processing power, which are crucial for distributing electrical energy—such as through smart grid systems for renewable sources—and supporting various manufacturing industries. These innovations also power hybrid and electric vehicles, trains, ships, and aircraft. Our program equips you with specialized electrical knowledge and skills to contribute to a sustainable future. Through hands-on lab projects and individual or small-team work, you'll gain essential problem-solving and design expertise. The third year involves an industry placement, where you can apply for available roles or arrange your own, while remaining registered with the university and meeting regularly with a tutor. By integrating numerical, analytical, and technical skills, you'll be prepared to deliver in-demand engineering solutions. All electrical and electronic courses share content in the first two years, allowing specialization in year three. This five-year MEng degree provides a deeper understanding of electrical engineering and is the preferred route to Chartered Engineer status, compared to our BEng program.
