Criminology and Sociology, BA (Hons)

This joint honours BA in Criminology and Sociology explores fundamental questions about societal organisation, the categorisation of behaviour as crime, and the impact of the digital age. Students will examine how societies function locally and globally, analyse crime causes and control mechanisms, and customise their studies through optional modules on topics like policing, gender, social media, cults, and migration. Opportunities for hands-on experience via placements and international study in places such as the Netherlands, Singapore, or the USA prepare graduates for impactful careers in the public, private, or voluntary sectors.The programme structures learning across three years: the first year introduces key traditions and ideas in sociology and criminology; the second deepens understanding of theoretical and methodological foundations through research design and classical/contemporary sociology; and the third allows specialisation via a dissertation and elective modules, fostering advanced skills for professional success.
