About the course

This programme delves into the civilisations of Ancient Greece and Rome, which shaped the ideas of Aristotle and Cicero, exploring their political and social structures, art, visual culture, religion, and daily life. Students can learn ancient Greek and/or Latin, welcoming all levels of experience. In philosophy, the curriculum covers ethics, logic, and reasoning, linking these to modern topics like social and environmental ethics, while comparing traditions from Greece, Rome, India, and China. No prior knowledge is required; the first year establishes foundational skills in both subjects. Later years offer flexible module choices, allowing exploration of complementary themes such as gender roles in antiquity versus today or the philosophy of Greek and Roman art. Students may specialise or combine these studies with other disciplines in our Liberal Arts BA.
