About the course

This course integrates chemical and environmental engineering to design processes and products that minimize impacts on air, land, and water. As a chemical and environmental engineer, you will address key areas such as waste disposal, environmental compliance, flooding and drainage, infrastructure development, pollutant management, land recovery, water supply and sanitation, as well as sectors like food and drink, energy, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and oil and gas. The program builds engineering expertise and professional skills, while fostering transferable abilities in project management, business management, finance, analytics, and teamwork.Students develop foundational knowledge in engineering fundamentals, science, and design during the first two years. Opportunities include a one-year paid industrial placement and/or study abroad. In the final year, advanced modules and an industry-focused group design project enhance practical skills for a professional career. The degree is accredited by the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and IOM3, meeting UK Engineering Council standards for professional competence.

What you will learn

In year one and two, students develop knowledge of the engineering fundamentals, science and design. Following a successful placement application, you will spend a year working in industry at the end of year two. In year four, in addition to advanced modules, you will undertake an industry-focused group design project, which simulates a commercial environment and will allow you to develop and demonstrate valuable skills for your future career as a professional chemical engineer.
