Are you passionate about planetary life, human and animal health, and sustainability? Accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, this course inspires through the study of animals (including humans), plants, and microbes. Explore topics in genetics, cell biology, physiology, evolution, and conservation, applying knowledge to detect and treat diseases, protect endangered species, or develop biotechnology. Tailor your studies with optional modules from field experts, and potentially switch to a four-year MSci based on second-year performance. From the first semester, gain hands-on experience in laboratory and field techniques, such as examining neurotransmitter interactions, immune cell phagocytosis, gene expression, and optional trips to nature reserves. In each year, select from optional modules alongside core ones. First-year focuses on the biology of animals, plants, and microbes, including biochemical, evolutionary, and genetic processes, with emphasis on experimental skills. Second-year explores health and disease in humans, animals, and plants, covering genetics, pathogens, parasites, and nervous system disorders. Third-year includes a year-long research project under academic guidance, allowing personalized investigation, with additional optional modules. For MSci students, a fourth-year project offers lab- or literature-based options. Visit our website for the latest details.
