Aerospace Engineering, MEng (Hons), with industry placement

This course explores the science of flight, aircraft design, and manufacturing, delivered by leading aviation researchers to equip you with essential skills and advanced knowledge for a career in aerospace. Our department maintains strong partnerships with companies such as Airbus, Boeing, and Rolls-Royce Aerospace, offering placement opportunities for practical experience. Supported by state-of-the-art facilities and guest lectures, the program provides insights into the expanding aerospace sector, with hands-on projects covering topics like aerodynamics, avionics, flight mechanics, and human factors.In the final year, you can customize your studies through specialized modules in technical and management areas, culminating in an in-depth project to prepare for industry entry. The four-year MEng program, ideal for Chartered Engineer status, offers a deeper focus on electrical engineering compared to the BEng option. The curriculum includes a common first two years with core engineering foundations, followed by industry placement, group projects, and optional modules in streams like general aerospace or aeromechanics.

All students follow a common programme of study for the first two years, studying core material that provides a solid practical foundation in engineering analysis and aircraft technology with hands-on design exercises and laboratory tests. At the end of year two, you will spend a year working in industry where you will gain first-hand experience of the exciting challenges that are faced by aerospace engineers, and significantly enhance your technical engineering and employability. In year four, you will work on a group design and make project, as well as choosing from a range of more specialised optional modules from within your chosen stream: general aerospace, aeromechanics, or aeroelectrical. During your fifth study year, you will undertake an individual project, as well as choosing from further specialised optional modules.
