Sociology examines how people organize their collective lives, the constraints they face, patterns of social behavior, and the causes and consequences of social inequalities.A distinctive feature of our Sociology program—praised by external examiners and graduates—is our integration of sociological, criminological, and anthropological perspectives. Philosophy systematically pursues clear answers to profound questions about knowledge, life, morality, science, and human nature through reason and argument. We host student reading parties, typically in the Highlands, and support a thriving undergraduate Philosophy Society.
