Sociology examines how people organize their lives collectively, the constraints they face, patterns of social behavior, and the causes and consequences of social inequalities. A distinctive feature of our program—praised by external examiners and graduates—is the integration of sociological, criminological, and anthropological perspectives.English Language and Linguistics explores the structure and meaning of English, past and present, to uncover insights into our culture, society, and identity. Over 50 years, we developed the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, a unique resource mapping the semantic evolution of its vast vocabulary. Students also access dedicated laboratories for analyzing spoken and written language.
