About the course

The Social & Public Policy programme addresses global and societal challenges, including poverty, inequality, housing, health, technology, and sustainability. It draws on political science, sociology, and economics to examine how governments respond to people’s needs, welfare, and wellbeing. The teaching team received the Social Policy Association/Policy Press Outstanding Teaching Award 2020 for excellence and innovation (SPA 2020), and Social Policy at Glasgow ranked joint top in the UK for student satisfaction in the NSS 2019. Students gain valuable work placements with voluntary or public sector organisations. In English Literature, students explore all aspects of English-language literature, leveraging expertise in American, Irish, and postcolonial literatures, critical theory, creative writing, and literature’s intersections with other arts, media, and science. Access to world-class Hunterian and Library collections highlights strengths in 18th- and 19th-century works, travel, illuminated manuscripts, and significant single-author holdings.
