About the course

The Social and Public Policy programme addresses global and societal challenges such as poverty, inequality, housing, health, technology, and sustainability. Drawing on political science, sociology, and economics, it examines how governments shape responses to people’s needs, welfare, and wellbeing. The teaching team earned the 2020 Social Policy Association/Policy Press Outstanding Teaching Award for UK excellence and innovation (SPA 2020), with Social Policy at Glasgow ranking joint top for student satisfaction in NSS 2019. Students gain valuable work placements in voluntary or public sector organisations.English Language and Linguistics studies the structure and meaning of English, past and present, to illuminate culture, society, and identity. Over 50 years, we developed the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, uniquely charting the semantic evolution of its vast vocabulary. Dedicated laboratories for analysing spoken and written language are also available.
