Scottish Literature involves the examination of Scotland's poetry, drama, fiction, and prose from the 14th century to contemporary works. The university hosts the only academic unit in the UK dedicated exclusively to teaching and researching Scottish literature. It is also home to the Centre for Robert Burns Studies, which is producing a new, multi-volume scholarly edition of the works by Scotland's national poet.Theatre Studies explores theatrical events and theatre culture through critical, historical, and practical perspectives. The programme maintains strong connections with the theatre industry, providing opportunities to collaborate with practitioners of national and international repute.
