About the course

Philosophy systematically seeks clear answers to profound questions on knowledge, life, morality, science, and human nature through reason and argument. We host student reading parties, typically in the Highlands, and maintain a thriving undergraduate Philosophy Society.Central and East European Studies examines the dramatic twentieth-century transformations in the region—from war, revolution, and socioeconomic upheaval to the collapse of communism, which perpetuated many inherited challenges. Spanning the Baltic to the Balkans and Berlin to Vladivostok, we address key issues in this vital area. The University serves as a hub for a government-funded Centre of Excellence for Russian, Central & East European Studies, hosting year-round cultural, social, and academic events. Optional language study includes Hungarian, Czech, Polish, or Russian.
