International Relations examines the interactions among states and national societies across borders, particularly in political, military, economic, and cultural domains. At Glasgow, the programme boasts a rising reputation for research and teaching, with strengths in global security, conflict resolution, and regional studies covering Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, China, and the Middle East. Students gain a thorough understanding of international relations in relation to politics, guided by expert academics.Social and Public Policy addresses global and societal issues like poverty, inequality, housing, health, technology, and sustainability by drawing on insights from political science, sociology, and economics to analyze government responses to human needs, welfare, and wellbeing. The University of Glasgow's Social and Public Policy team received the 2020 Social Policy Association/Policy Press Outstanding Teaching Award for its excellence and innovation in the UK. Additionally, the programme ranked joint first for student satisfaction in the 2019 NSS and offers work placements in voluntary or public sector organizations.
