International Relations examines interactions among states and national societies across borders, focusing on political, military, economic, and cultural dimensions.The University of Glasgow enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching in international relations, with expertise in global security, conflict, and regional studies including Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, China, and the Middle East. Students gain a deep understanding of the field’s ties to politics from leading academics. Central and East European Studies explores the region’s turbulent 20th-century history—from wars and revolutions to the collapse of communism—and ongoing challenges from the Baltic to the Balkans and Berlin to Vladivostok. The University hosts a government-funded Centre of Excellence for Russian, Central, and East European Studies, featuring cultural, social, and academic events. Optional language study includes Hungarian, Czech, Polish, or Russian.
