The study of history examines change and continuity in human society over time. At Glasgow, our wide-ranging programme spans medieval to modern eras and global contexts, featuring small-group teaching, diverse assessments (such as policy papers and blogs), and one-to-one feedback tutorials. We host leading research centres in gender history, war studies, slavery studies, American studies, and Scottish and Celtic studies. Our teaching leverages world-leading expertise in Scottish, British, European, U.S., and global history; slavery, gender, and war, intelligence, and genocide studies.Scottish literature explores Scotland's poetry, drama, fiction, and prose in English and Scots, from the 14th century to contemporary works. We host the UK's only academic unit dedicated exclusively to its teaching and research, including the Centre for Robert Burns Studies, which has secured over £2 million from the Arts and Humanities Research Council for a new multi-volume scholarly edition of Scotland's national poet.
