The History of Art program explores the creation and aesthetics of paintings, sculptures, buildings, and designs across various media. Students benefit from extensive resources, including the University Library and Archives, The Hunterian museum and art gallery with its renowned Hunter, Whistler, and Mackintosh collections, and Kelvin Hall's innovative collections centre. In the third year, a grant supports visits to relevant museums, galleries, and buildings.Scottish Literature examines Scotland's poetry, drama, fiction, and prose in English and Scots from the 14th century to the present. The University hosts the UK's only dedicated academic unit for teaching and researching this field, including the Centre for Robert Burns Studies. This centre has secured over £2 million in funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to produce a new multi-volume scholarly edition of Scotland's national poet's works.
