The study of history explores change and continuity in human societies across time. At Glasgow, we provide a comprehensive programme spanning medieval to modern eras and global contexts. Our teaching features small group sessions, diverse assessments like policy papers and blogs, and personalised feedback tutorials. We host prominent research centres in gender history, war studies, slavery studies, American studies, and Scottish and Celtic studies, informed by world-leading expertise in Scottish, British, European, U.S., and global history, as well as slavery, gender, and war-related fields.History of art investigates the creation and aesthetics of paintings, sculptures, buildings, and designs. Students access extensive resources, including the University Library and Archives, The Hunterian museum with its celebrated Hunter, Whistler, and Mackintosh collections, and Kelvin Hall. A grant is available during the third-year break to support visits to relevant museums, galleries, and sites.
