English Language and Linguistics examines the structure and meaning of the English language, past and present, revealing insights into our culture, society, and identity. Latin explores the language, literature, history, and culture of the Romans.At the University of Glasgow, we have taught English Language and Linguistics for over 75 years, with staff who are leaders in their fields. We developed the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English and offer dedicated laboratories for analysing spoken and written language. Latin students can visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy, with Honours students eligible for up to three weeks of fieldwork there or elsewhere in the ancient world. Graduates excel in language, communication, and textual analysis, pursuing careers in media, publishing, marketing, speech therapy, teaching English abroad, heritage, consultancy, finance, law, accountancy, or IT.
